A Day at Prairie Woods ELC
Prairie Woods Environmental Learning Center, located right here in Spicer, Minnesota, is a spectacular facility dedicated to environmental education and outdoor learning for all ages. In total, the property sits on about 500 acres, and includes over 10km of trails, a variety of buildings including the Gary Wesby Observatory, a Native American History Village, a shooting sprts range, and a 30 foot indoor climbing wall. The trails, which are open for hiking during the spring, summer, and fall months will take you over rolling glacial terrain, through woods and prairies, and near ponds and wetlands. During the winter, these beautiful trails are groomed and open for exquisite cross-country skiing. Other wonderful things at Prairie Woods Environmental Learning Center include their challenge course and their variety of exciting learning programs.
Throughout the year, Prairie Woods also hosts a variety of fun community-oriented festivals and celebrations, including their popular Halloween Haunt and the Prairie Woods Sleigh and Ski Festival. Also, coming up in a few weeks in their biggest annual fundraiser, An Evening Under the Prairie Stars. This wonderful event is in its 8th year, and will be a spectacular night of celebration from start to finish. Guests to this event will enjoy locally grown and prepared dinner underneath a white canopy tent, cocktails by the big red barn, and live music by Minnesota’s own Steve Kaul & The Brass Kings. There will also be a silent auction featuring locally made art pieces, dinners catered by local chefs, and food and wine packages by local growers and wineries.
