Murder & Mystery at Spicer Castle
Our property is a historic piece of property worth exploring, and is a popular stop for history buffs traveling through Minnesota. There have long been many famous and beautiful castles in Minnesota, many one-time residences of famous and wealthy Minnesotans. Storied properties include those such as the Villa Maria Retreat Center in Frontenac, The Landmark Center in St. Paul, and the Historic Central School in Duluth. The Spicer Castle, once known as Medayto Cottage, is no different. This luxury home along the shores of Green Lake was used as a seasonal home for former resident John Spicer, and today is listed as one of the top 10 castles to visit in Minnesota. It was built in 1895, and today houses our historic Bed and Breakfast and private cabins.
Though the historic legacy of the elegant Spicer Castle is certainly worth exploring while here, there are many other great things to do along these beautiful shores of Green Lake, including nearby shopping and outdoor recreation. One of the things that sets up apart from the other Bed and Breakfasts or hotels in the Spicer area are the Murder Mystery Dinners held throughout the year at our gorgeous waterfront restaurant. Murder Mystery Dinners are held throughout the year on Fridays and Saturdays, and feature a sumptuous 5-course meal, along with several hours of pure entertainment. Themes for these dinners vary from event to event, but have ranged from a 1930’s English Mansion to a 1920’s Chicago Speakeasy. Though you can see our elegant castle on the shores of Green Lake and participate in the Murder Mystery Dinners without staying here, why would you want to? Book your room at our historic Minnesota Bed and Breakfast, and you’ll find the tranquility of our accommodations unbeatable.
