Summer Vacation on Green Lake

For years, people have been coming to the calm, beautiful waters of Green Lake for their summer vacation.  The Spicer Castle Inn, located lakeside, is the perfect place to enjoy that getaway.  The quaint town of Spicer is about 90 minutes west of Minneapolis/St. Paul; there’s no excuse not to visit!  The Inn itself is situated on a 5-acre property with scenic walking trails, a dock for your boat (or you can borrow ours!), and a delicious restaurant to fuel you up when needed.

There’s no doubt that our favorite way to spend a summer vacation is on, or in, Green Lake.  It’s a large, deep lake, and is one of the most popular in the Willmar Lakes area, whether it’s for fishing, boating, or just swimming.  There are 6 public access points into Green Lake, including the popular Saulsbury Beach, which is perfect for those who want to swim.  Boating is easily accessible, and fishermen will find a treasure-trove of walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass, black crappie, and Summer Vacation on Minnesota's Green Lakebluegill.

If you want to spend some time on land, there’s lots for you to do there, too.  The 22 mile Glacial Lake State Trail provides miles of excellent paved trails for exploring.  Sibley State Park is also a beautiful place to spend a day.  You can get there on bike if you want, via country road 148.  Ride or walk up to the Observation Tower at Mt. Tom, the highest point for 50 miles. On a clear day, you can see for miles, offering rewarding views of Minnesota’s beautiful lake country.  There are also 5 additional miles of biking trails to enjoy in the park, and several lakes in which you can cool off for the afternoon.  Spicer Bike & sports is a great place in town to rent a bike if you’re so inclined.

There are also several wonderful golf courses located nearby, including the Little Crow Golf Club in Spicer, and Eagle Creek Golf Club in Willmar.  For something truly unusual these days, enjoy one of the evening shows put on by the Little Crow Ski Team.  They ski at their home site Neer Park on the Crow River in the neighboring town of New London, and they put on a show every Friday night during the months of June, July, and August.  Of course, you can always just stay on the property at the Spicer Castle Inn and enjoy our lakeside patio with a delicious glass of wine.  It’s up to you how to spend your summer vacation, but one thing is for sure:  Book your getaway to Minnesota’s Lake Country today.
